Our Analysis

• In dry skin there is a structural breakdown of the epidermis, the superficial layer. This is the protein microstructure of the skin, an interconnection of individual skin cells which form the epidermis and protects us from the outer world.
• Daily exposure to chemicals, solvents, damaging ingredients in skin care products, weather changes, repeated washing and oxidation all contribute to the loss of structural integrity of the epidermis.
• When the essential protein layer is broken the skin cells clump together to form scales leading to roughness and cracking.
• The underlying immature skin cells are exposed to the damaging stress of the external environment.

Testimony From the Clinic

Topical Dermatitis - Laboratory assistant, aged 30. Female.
This patient had suffered with topical dermatitis on her hands for six months. The skin was dry and cracked with inflammation and occasional bleeding. The onset coincided with her new position at work. She associated the problem with the chemicals she used in her job and the antibacterial soaps.
